If you like animals, Turney Williams’s story will inspire you. Turney is one of many volunteer at Garland Farms, who make a difference with our loveable four-legged friends.
As a local anesthesiologist, Turney works with people and pain problems. However, when it comes to his free time, he has been serving on the Humane Society’s board for eight years. He says he often serves as a “maintenance man” and is proud of his work.
“We have been working toward a large adoption base and get them fixed and medically tuned up and adopted out.”
Turney moved to Garland Farms about six months ago and have a fantastic new home overlooking this peaceful community.
His story about how he arrived speaks to people in the neighborhood’s unique character. Describing how he arrived, he says,
“We moved to Garland Farms because we had some friends who kept coming to the Crawfish Boil. We were impressed by the people who live there and use their vacation time to put together an event and donate the proceeds to charity.”
East Tennessee has been home to Turney and his family for more than 30 years and had previously lived on 25 acres of land, which he cared for and wanted to make a change.
“I lived in the county and wanted to move into a neighborhood with closer friends and a neighborhood environment. It’s been a great neighborhood for us, and almost everybody is involved in something.”
Laughing, he continues, “It’s a great pet-friendly environment. We have a couple of dogs and too many cats.”
People who live in this area of Tennessee often describe it compared to other locations, and Turney grew up in a military family and has lived all over the world.
“The people here are very warm and friendly and tend to do exactly what they say they are going to do. When they say they’re going to help you, they show up and do it. Perhaps that’s not unique to Garland Farms, but we believe it’s a great place and can’t think of any place I’d rather live.”
